Great is Thy Faithfulness

This generation is not one that is shy of talking about mental illness. I would stretch that statement to even say that we unintentionally have made mental illnesses a trend. One of the most common being anxiety. Anxiety is one of those things that is debilitating. I think my anxiety really started to hit during my senior year of high school...honestly it may have started much younger and I wasn’t able to put words to it. Anxiety for most is the fear of the unknown. The fear of not knowing what that room full of strangers will think of us, where we will be in five years, or whether the fact that the color of my skin will always precede me before my gifts and talents. Anxiety affects us so deeply and in every area of our lives that it quickly becomes sin. It quickly becomes this deep rooted pride and forgetfulness of God’s great faithfulness. Somehow we have gotten to a place where anxiety is not only not being taken as seriously as it should be, but we have also written it off to be something that we choose to do nothing about. We choose to complain instead of going to the greatest comforter of all...God our Father.

Great is Thy faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness

Morning by morning

New mercies I see

All I have needed

Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy faithfulness

Our God explicitly tells us over and over again in His word that He has been, is and always will be faithful. This hymn does the same for us. If anything it should point us to His promises that He has proven to himself to being faithful to keep. Every morning we wake up by His grace and He provides us with all we need to get through. Just like He did for the Israelites with manna, He has given us more than we needed to trust that when we don’t know what’s to come He will be faithful. Sis, God sees you in the middle of that panic attack, during that awkward conversation at an event when really you desire to be deeply known, and when you are questioning whether your gifts and talents will prove your worth. His hand has provided you with the Holy Spirit that now allows us to directly communicate with him in our most anxious moments. When you feel overwhelmed with worry turn to Him.

Pray with me sis,

God we come thanking you for your consistent faithfulness. In our most overwhelming and anxious moments may we fix our eyes on the one who is our greatest comforter. Whose mercies are new every day and whose hands will continue to provide for us. When satan tries to overcome us with worry, may we believe in the Creator of the Universe who loves us deeply. We praise you for your faithfulness God!
