How Deep the Father's Love for Us
By Aiden Willis
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
Standing in a crowd of about 1,000 women was the first time this hymn really pierced my heart. For a weekend I heard multiple times, that we obey God because we love God..and obeying God means being deeply grieved over our sin. Tears rolled down my face when I realized that it wasn’t just my sin that I was deeply intertwined with before I had a relationship with Christ, but also the sin my flesh leads me in today. That in my sin I am turning my face against the man who endured the greatest amount of pain that the world has ever seen on my behalf. Most importantly, Jesus died to bring me life.
The Word tells us that we once we were dead in our sins and transgressions. We consistently gave ourselves over to the world, trying to find fulfillment in material and earthly things. We were under His wrath, set to experience an eternity without Him. Through His mercy and grace our destination has now changed. Jesus’ dying breath has given us life. Because of God’s love for us, we are now raised back to life with Him. Now then the Holy Spirit resides in us and we get the joy of continuing Jesus’ mission. That mission being living in the Truth, bringing others to His kingdom, and making disciples. May we as Black Women live out this truth, because we too sis (despite what the world tells us) are His workmanship. Made holy and righteous. It is finished, pray with me.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do” Ephesians 2:10
