O Come, All Ye Faithful

By Jerjuanna Cecille

Growing up in a traditional black baptist church, there is without a doubt, a guarantee that one will hear a plethora of Christmas hymns. For year after year these particular songs were(to me) just good tunes to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. To get our minds off of the gifts under the tree. For some to realize and other to remember that the greatest gift one could receive this season was born in a manger and that this gift was graciously named Jesus.

As this advent time begins, as we expectantly wait to celebrate the birth of Christ and Jesus’ second coming. Let us challenge ourselves and those around us to truly adore the babe in the manger, the word that became flesh, Christ the Lord.

Adore to love and respect, to worship!

In Luke chapter 2 , there is an account of the birth of Jesus. After Mary has her first born son, Luke moves our focus to some shepherds out in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night. These men were busy, they were working diligently. Trying to keep their focus on the main thing which was their flock. Something that is very important to them and of great value. Yet, an angel of the Lord comes to them and announces to them good news of great joy for all people. That unto us Christ has been born. The angel instructs them on how and where to find this babe in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes. As the angels left, the shepherds said to one to another let us go now and see this thing which the Lord has made known to us! They stopped all that they were doing and with haste, with urgency went to see,Jesus!

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,

O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.

Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;

O come, let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him,

Christ the Lord.

See how the shepherds, summoned to His cradle,Leaving their flocks, draw nigh to gaze;We too will thither bend our joyful footsteps;

Sis,brother, cousin, whatever it is you may be to us we invite you to come with us to adore Christ the Lord. That in our expected waiting we won’t look over the sweetness that the King has come to give us life everlasting. That we like the shepherds would leave that which is earthly important to us and draw near to gaze on the Savior of the world. The Savior that has come from on high to meet us right where we are. Let us not in our waiting overlook the presence of Christ the Lord right now. So come let us adore him today.

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

God, we praise you for the babe in the manger! Let us come to adore Him. Even on our worse of days, when you have made a way out of no way. When we have everything that we need or could ever ask for humble us still, so that we can come to love, respect and worship the Lord. Oh come let us adore Him! Let us not miss your presence Jesus right now in our lives Jesus. Our Father who is in Heaven, hollow be your name on earth as it is in Heaven. Let us sing, like choirs of angels, sing in exultation; Glory to God, all glory in the highest!

In Jesus Name Amen
